Heart of Winter

Heart of winter, and a morning filled with an ominous smell.
The wind seems to be waving the clouds frantically as they travel across the tree tops.
Dead leaves rustle in the garden downstairs hissing like a serpent,
Deflecting the summery exuberance of the pigeons and the squirrels.
I stand, wondering whether to ignore the furiously coding husband like a cat with my back to him,
Or, break his geeky reverie with a piping hot cuppa laced with some morning wisdom.
Both prospects seem gloomy and full of foreboding.
Suddenly the horizon breaks in to a smiling, gleaming silver lining,
And in a moment, this terribly dull weather resurrects itself like a phoenix.
The procrastination melts away as I fist up the sun
Like a burning coin, and grab the day by its horns.
